One Day Marine Education Events
Our monthly marine education programme aims to create awareness on local marine and coastal habitats to youths. The schools are randomly selected based on their availability every month. About 60 - 70 students visit from each school every month. We give first priority to Government schools. The selected schools usually arrive our centre at 9 am and return on 3 pm. During this event, a presentaion on mangroves, seagrass beds is showed to students with photos and videos taken in local coastal area in order to be a realistic, practical awareness on local ecosystems. After a tea break, the student walk to nearby mangroves with our education officer to learn about mangrove ecology and its benefits, followed by a short beach walk. Then students view the exhibition of marine shells, research equipments and finally a demo of scuba dive in a small water tank. The students can cooks eggs in solar cookers, use ecofriendly paddle pump and plant seedlings in our nursery. Our centre is located in a very peaceful scenario, which is apt for learning about mother sea.
